NMT Manager of the Year 2016

We have some very exciting news to share with you and we couldn’t be more proud of our very talented staff. This year (2016) we looked through the spec for the categories for the NMT Awards and we nominated Paddy Mahoney (After School Practitioner) as Personality of the Year and Lorraine Kirkwood (Manager) as Manager of the Year. We submitted the applications with support from parents and staff, with statements and testimonials and both were shortlisted to the final 5, where they were invited to do an interview with a panel. At this point both were very excited and could not wait till the award night.

On the Friday 2nd September, at the Glasgow Hilton Hotel, both Paddy and Lorraine were shown on the big stage for their respective category and we are proud to announce that Lorraine was successful in becoming Manager of the Year. This was an amazing achievement for both as they were up against established nursery chains and independents from all over Scotland.

Winners of the Scottish NMT Nursery Awards 2016 were presented with their trophies by Edward Reid at the high profile Gala Night and was attended by 400 guests. The Scottish NMT Nursery Awards are an annual event, organised by Nursery Management Today, the leading business publication in the nursery sector and sponsored by key companies providing services in the sector. The Awards are designed to discover and reward the very best people in the Scottish Nursery Sector. There were 11 categories to enter overall and there were four or five finalists in each category with two independent judges.

NDNA Awards…

NDNA logo 2Monkey Puzzle Glasgow Central are proud to announce that our fabulous parents have nominated us for NDNA Healthy Nursery of the Year and Nursery of the Year and we are through to the second stage of the competition. We can’t thank you enough for all the wonderful feedback we have received and we’ll keep you updated on the results. Here are some of the lovely comments that were posted on the NDNA website from our parents:

“Fantastic new service with great focus on healthy eating and active play. High quality service with fantastic staff and commitment to the children.” Stacy Woolcott

“Great place for kids to go, nothing like it near us in Glasgow. Staff are outstanding, environment high quality and the commitment to parental involvement is second to none. Well done to Lorraine and the girls!!!” Adnan Ali

“My child attends this nursery and the work they put in with the children is just amazing. There is constantly new ideas and new events happening and the staff give their all. The new menu just goes to show how dedicated they are to the health aspect of children as it took weeks to properly prepare it and took into account parents views and ideas.” Claire Klos

What we’ve been up to in April…

The children had the opportunity to witness the life cycle of a baby chick. The first Chick hatched at 3.25 pm on the 1st and the children called her Fluffy. The eggs continued to hatch over the coming days until we had 9 bundles of fluff.

The Easter Bunny paid a visit to the nursery on the 3rd to take the children on a fabulous Egg Hunt with party snack on our return.

On the 6th the children have had a fun filled day out planting their home grown mint and putting up the backdrop scenery in the new Mud Kitchen. On the 9th the children at holiday club decided to host a Pirate and Princess day. We all made last minute costumes, got the decorations ready and prepared a pirate snack and lunch for everyone. As part of the celebrations we managed to get a bouncy castle for the garden.

On the 13th the children were working hard on our Eco Project. They were planting, weeding and measuring our plants. The Mega Monkey’s created new rain catchers and recorded the rainfall over the coming weeks. By the 16th the sun had come out and the children had a busy day playing in the sun. We noted that our pumpkins had grown by 3 cm this week. The Holiday Club children were baking and making health snacks. The Pitta Pocket Pizza looked fantastic and tasted great!!!!

On the 21st the staff completed their Cyber Safety Training and Child Protection training with Children’s 1st. The staff feedback was very positive and highlighted a number of issues which could arise. The After School staff will be looking for Children’s 1st to come back to the service and host a child awareness session. This will help our After School Children to be more aware of online strangers.

On the 23rd Veronica our new cook was cooking up a storm in the kitchen. The feedback from the children and staff was very positive. The children had vegetable risotto with crusty bread today. This was the first time the children have had this on the new menu and it has been given a big thumbs up.
