Here at Monkey Puzzle Glasgow Central we have split the nursery facilities into four age groups:

Nursery Facilities

Babies (Bush Babies)

The Baby Room is where our youngest children enjoy their day. The room is large and bright for little ones to crawl, roll, shuffle, toddle and explore.

There is a dedicated sensory area with equipment to stimulate the babies’ senses along with a range of toys encouraging the children’s further development in all areas.
An attractive and relaxing dedicated sleeping room awaits our tired children with the temperature constantly monitored to ensure the babies are comfortable at all times. In addition the babies have their own dedicated changing facilities, wet kitchen and outside play area.

Your child’s key person will take care of all your child’s personal needs whenever possible reinforcing the Pre Birth to Three curriculum. Staff will ensure the nursery allows your child to grow and develop in a warm, safe, nurturing environment, using age and stage appropriate resources and activities. We operate a 1:3 ratio in the Baby Room.

Tweenies (Little Monkeys)

The Little Monkeys zone is for children 1-2 years with the day structured around their changing interests. The Little Monkeys room is well appointed with outstanding levels of equipment, the room follows the Pre Birth To Three Curriculum and encourages learning through play.

There are various dedicated areas in the Little Monkeys zone offering different activities; there is the ‘Story Corner’ where Little Monkeys sit in a group and are read stories; a sand and water play area; a construction area to develop coordination, and a messy play area for painting and generally getting messy.

Little Monkeys also benefit from a staffing ratio of one member of staff looking after no more than three children. The Little Monkeys also have supervised access to the garden which the children access on a daily basis throughout the year.

2-3 Years (Cheeky Monkeys)

The Toddler zone also benefits from a number of dedicated areas, as in Little Monkeys. The 2 – 3’s have creative areas, a reading corner, circle time and a home area corner.

As this is the time when the majority of children start ‘toilet training’, the toddler’s room is easily accessible to brightly decorated children’s’ toilets, encouraging independence and a staff ratio of 1:5 applies to this group of children.

The garden is fully equipped with an impact absorbing surface and lots of outside equipment designed to encourage coordination and balance.  The children enjoy a wide range of community visits and trips. The nursery has a strong Eco focus and the children and staff are enjoying working towards their Bronze Eco Flag Award.

Pre-School (Mega Monkeys)

Our Pre-School children follow the Curriculum for Excellence preparing them for their eventual move to school, supported by a staff ratio of 1:8. This is a far more structured routine, with children working in small groups and learning to concentrate for longer periods of time. They also become far more independent, pouring their own drinks, serving their own food, laying the table and learning how to use a computer.

Topics covered are based on the following seven areas of learning: physical development, personal, social and emotional development, communication and language, literacy, expressive arts and designs, understanding of the world and mathematics.
Our pre-schoolers have their own ‘Science Lab’ – here they will be encouraged to learn, explore, discover and enjoy the natural world, habitats, science and on a daily basis begin to understand about the world around them and what FUN it can be!

Our fantastic enclosed large outdoor play zones offer a wide range of stimulating physical activities, within a natural environment.  The nursery has designated areas for both children 0-3 and 3-5 years.  The nursery has a strong commitment to promoting Eco Awareness and has successfully won two Green Eco Flags and a Platinum Woodland Trust Award!
